June Newsletter

Dear Readers

 

I didn't realise how busy June was until I started to research all the things that were happening and, golly gosh it is heaving with events! Monday sees the start of Wimbledon and after Andy's fantastic win at Queen's recently we are very excited for a British win this year. In hope of a British victory we have some great tennis ball cupcake toppers for you to try out.  We have been busy expanding our range of utterly delicious cake mixes.  They have been baked once, baked twice, in fact baked about 100 times to ensure perfect results every time, needless to say we are now all on diets!

 

 

We are working on our stand design for the amazing Cake and Bake Show in September.  Whatever you do, make sure you are free from 13th-15th September and can get yourself to Earls Court in London as this is one NOT to be missed!  Read below for more information and a link to buy discounted tickets for this event.  Anyway enough from me, see what I've been up to this month. Royal Icing To Go

  

    

 

In this fast moving world that we now live in, even cake decorators find it hard to keep up with new products coming on to the market. I'm sure you will be over the moon to hear about this 200g tub of Luxury Royal Icing To Go.

 

It is a ready mixed royal icing perfect for piping wording or attaching decorations to cakes. The pot has a re-sealable lid so you can just cling film the top before replacing it and use again at a later date. The makers of this product claim it can even be frozen. If you ask me, this is a genius product and is already sitting on my shelf in case of emergencies.

If you bought our fabulous Bake A Dad Cupcake Kit last month then you will already have the set of 2 Round Smiley Face Cutters.  I have covered this cake in black Sugarpaste and cut out some yellow faces using the cutter.  To finish off the cake I have inserted some candy eyeballs and I think they work really well.  If you add some Bitter Lemon Food Paste to your Sugarpaste it will turn your faces into tennis ball colour, perfect for the next couple of weeks!  Put your cake on one of our coloured boards like the black one I have used here.

These fancy biscuits wouldn't look out of place at Wimbledon.  I think it may be the strawberries that are making my mouth water.  Press your favourite biscuit dough into this lightly floured Dahlia Flower Mould by Karen Davies, pop out of the mould and neaten the edges before placing on a greased baking sheet and bake according to your recipe

 

We have filled 2 with fresh cream and sliced strawberries but you could use any filling you fancy.

The more I use Sattina Real Chocolate Sugarpaste the more amazing I realise it is!  

 

This latest cake shows how you can use real lace to emboss on to the chocolate.  I used our White Cotton Lace Ribbon and Scalloped Lace to create these designs.  Simply roll out the sugarpaste to 3mm thickness and lay the lace over the top.  Using a rolling pin, roll slowly backwards and forwards so that the lace leaves an impression. Remove the lace and cut a neat edge using one of the cutters from the Straight Frill Sets and fix to the cake with  edible glue.  I have also found that Sattina Real Chocolate Sugarpaste works really well in the Blosson Art Hydrangea Cutter and Mould set and the PME Ivy Leaf Plunger Cutters too!.

Rich, colourful, tasty and dense, our Red Velvet Cake Mix takes all the hassle out of creating the perfect rich red colour which is so important when baking this particular cake.  Just add water and   what's great, is that we sell it in 1kg boxes and that's perfect for a really deep 8" round that can be cut and laden with delicious cream cheese filling, yum!

Light, fluffy and very fresh, this cake mix has a subtle lemon flavour and can easily be enhanced with some delicious lemon curd and maybe even some zesty buttercream.  Put in a tray bake and use as a base for the most mouth-watering lemon drizzle cake ever!

This is the first Rich Fruit Mix that I have seen where you just add water.  It is absolutely delicious and packed with fruit and flavour, ideal for celebration, wedding cakes and Christmas cakes.  Enhance with brandy or sherry, we like to add both; sit back and enjoy the compliments!

This pretty Hydrangea cake uses Karen Davies' Hydrangea Border Mould.  It saves time cutting out individual flowers and looks fantastic. I have used our Sattina Sugarpaste in Dove Grey for this cake and added some CMC to the paste I put in the mould to stiffen it a little.  To finish, spray over with Edible Pearl Lustre Spray or dust over with Edible Lustre Dusts.  I have used the Hydrangea Cupcake Top Mould in the middle of the cake in exactly the same way and finished it off with a pretty ribbon.
