Cake Craft World September 'Catch Up'

Dear Readers

Welcome to this special Cake and Bake Show newsletter edition.

I promised to bring you all the gossip from the show, along with photos of the spectacular cakes we made for our lovely stand so read on below for the full story.

Autumn usually brings earthy colours and muted shades, but not at Cake Craft World! We have now launched our brand new range of intense and bright Sattina colours in 500g packs and they seem to be going down a storm.

We are involved in raising money for the fantastic Macmillan Cancer Support charity and would love you to join us at our coffee morning. Details are below so hopefully I will see you there if you are local enough!

We had some great special offers at The Cake and Bake Show and I am passing them on to all of you that were unable to join us in London a couple of weekends ago. Stock up on these great products whilst they are still at the special show prices.

There will be another newsletter coming to you very soon as Halloween is just around the corner and we have some great new products for the spooky season.

Thank you all for sending me your photos over the summer, I have loved receiving them and I have added some of my favourites to the Hall of Fame this month. Keep on sending them

Until next time, happy baking x

 Cake and Bake Chat

Whilst I was busy demonstrating some great products on our stand, I was also frantically trying to find out what was going on!  I absolutely loved the 'market place' which consisted of trillions of cupcake, meringue, brownie, macaron, pie, bread and even marshmallow stands. Having started a healthy diet regime the day before, it went out of the window quicker than I could say "I'll have a red velvet cupcake please!"

It was lovely to meet up with Eric Lanlard and talk about his up and coming baking range.  Sam and I just had to get a sneaky photo with him before the show started on one of the mornings!

We sell a huge range of Little Venice Cake Company products so it was great to catch up with Mich Turner as we are fans of her work and product line.

The young girl in this photo was the totally adorable winner of the junior category for the Catwalk Cake Competition.

Her name is Olivia Offord and she's one to look out for in the future as her cake was simply amazing.

As I was walking around I bumped into a few of the contestants on this year's The Great British Bake Off. They seemed to be having great fun meeting the public and were quite shocked at how well known they had become in such a short time.

And last but not least the stars of our own show, Pat and I messing around on our stand! We had great fun yet again at the show and can't wait for next year.

If you didn't make it this time, put it in your diary for 2014.

 Looking Lovely in Lace

When I designed this cake it was originally to be covered in white Sattina Sugarpaste to help show off the flowers but when I found this new Magenta food paste colour from Sugarflair I simply had to include it on the base of the top tier. It's such a lovely muted pink/lilac colour and works so well with the black.

The star of this cake and our top seller at the show has to be the Lottie Lace Mould by Karen Davies. I started at the bottom of the cake and worked my way up, slightly overlapping each layer of lace. If you add a tiny amount of Sugarcel/CMC into the Sattina Sugarpaste, it is much easier to work with and very little cornflour is needed. Be sure not to add too much CMC or your sugarpaste will dry too hard. I would suggest about 1tsp to 500g of sugarpaste.

 Getting Up Close & Personal

These vivid flowers were created using some of the brand new Sugarflair pastel paste colours in our set B range.

Colours used were Apricot (Cherry Blossom), Aqua (Hydrangea), Rose(Roses), Kiwi (leaves) and of course Magenta for the top tier cake base.

As I was using Sattina Sugarpaste, I only needed to add some CMC powder to create a workable paste that I could use with the Blossom Art cutters & moulds

The roses were made using the Great Impressions Rose mould and the leaves were made using the teardrop part of a fuchsia cutter with one end pinched together.

I decided to make the butterflies from our very own exclusively designed butterfly cutter. To add drama outline them in black and paint a simple design on the wings using a No.1 brush with black paste colour. Use rejuvenator spirit instead of water to thin out the black as it will help keep the intensity of colour.

To enhance the centres of the flowers brush with Blossom Tint dusting colours using a No 5 dusting brush and finish with an edible pearl ball.

Brand New

Sattina Intense Range!

Introducing 14 new vibrant colours -

Aqua, Cerise Pink, Pitch Black, Mediterranean Blue, Burgundy Wine, Chestnut Brown, True Red, Golden Brown, Regency Blue, Sunshine Yellow, Grass Green, Bright Orange, Regal Purple and Candy Floss!

Our dome cake dummies are brand new through the door and are great for adding height and drama to the top tiers of cakes.  I have covered this one with Sunshine Yellow and added detail in True Red and Regency Blue.  The stars were made using a star plunger cutter, the ropes were a mix of Bright Orange and Regal Purple and finally the little bears are Golden Brown with Burgundy Wine noses and Candy Floss ears!

The second tier down is covered in Mediterranean Blue and has plunger cutter stars in True Red and Regency Blue scattered all over.  The flags on the rim are made with our very own set of 3 bunting cutters and use a mix of our colours.

The next tier down is covered in Bright Orange and studded with multi coloured ovals using the smallest in the oval plunger cutter set.  The diamond design uses the largest in the diamond plunger cutter set and is attached to a Sunshine Yellow strip around the cake that has been cut using a design from set 3 (9-12) of the straight frill cutter set.

The multi coloured flowers are from the 5 petal rose cutters which come in a variety of sizes and the last tier is covered in Cerise Pink and decorated with Grass Green.

I hope this has helped you to become accustomed to the colours and that you try them out as the comments we have had so far are amazing! Please let me know what you think of our new colours by emailing me at:

To celebrate the launch of this fantastic new range we are offering a 10%
introductory discount on all 500g packs of Sattina intense colour range.

Winter Wedding Cake Showstopper

This was a real showstopper at The Cake and Bake Show.  The softness of the Sattina Dove Grey works perfectly with the icy yellow to create a chillingly magical winter wedding cake...

How to make the holly and berries

I made the white holly berries from white Sattina Sugarpaste and left them to harden for a few days before rolling them around in a generous amount of snowflake edible lustre dust.  Use white modelling paste and an extra-large holly leaf plunger cutter to create the holly leaves and shape them so they are not completely flat. Leave to dry.

How to make the winter roses

Roll out white florist paste until very thin and cut out 2 different sized 5 petal rose cutters.  Frill the edges of the petals using a ball tool and foam pad and then leave to dry.  Once dried, layer the smaller sized flower on top of the larger size using royal icing and then lightly dust with lemon ice edible lustre dust.

Finish the centre of the roses using a piping bag (filled with royal icing) and a grass tube No. 233 to create a spikey effect. Sprinkle some pretty white hologram glitter on the finished roses for that magical sparkle. I attached the roses to this cake using royal icing.

How to Create Stripes

The perfectly sized stripes on this cake were created using our new Sattina Sugarpaste in Dove Grey

I mixed a little CMC into the sugarpaste before cutting the stripes as it really helps them to keep their shape. Use the multi ribbon cutter to create identical stripes and then attach them to the cake.

The wider horizontal band also uses the multi ribbon cutter.

Create perfectly spaced royal icing dots with the help of the press ice ribbon 1 tool.

Finish off the cake by placing some sugarpaste berries at the base and attaching a large scallop decoration using another design from set 3 (9-12) of the straight frill cutter set. Finish off the frill using stars from the
