Dear Readers,

Spring has sprung and so have lots of new ideas here at Cake Craft World. The whole place is buzzing with excitement, but sadly not about the Ideal Home Show cake competition. There is always next year but in our eyes we are winners because we were so thrilled by the amount of fantastic comments about our cake on our Facebook page. Thank you to all who commented and we will be trying again next year for the coveted title. If you didn't manage to see the cake at the Ideal Home Show, we will be taking it on tour with us this summer to Cake International at Excel, London and also The Cake & Bake Show at Earls Court later in the year.

As we are celebrating two huge events this summer in our wonderful City, the warehouse is looking very red, white and blue with all the patriotic decorations flying off the shelves. There is limited stock on everything as so many of you are deciding to bake your way through the Jubilee weekend so get your orders in now. I have put my thinking cap on for you this month to try and come up with some clever ideas to decorate your cakes and fancies for street parties and any Olympic parties that you may be having at home during the summer.

Happy Baking

A Carriage fit for a Queen

This cake was made using the Princess Carriage Pan. It is an easy tin to use as once you have covered your cake with sugarpaste, you put the pan back over the cake and press down gently, indenting all the details on to the sugarpaste. I have covered this carriage with  Teddy Bear Brown Regal Ice and sprayed it with Gold Edible Lustre Spray to create the striking gold carriage effect. The window and wheel detail was added afterwards using Regal Ice and the whole carriage then embellished with Mixed Silver Dragees. Have you noticed the red glitter board? This was made by covering a board with Sattina True Red Sugarpaste, spraying with Edible Glaze Spray and then liberally sprinkling non toxic Red Glitter over the top, finishing off with another coating of Edible Glaze Spray to seal.

If you decide to invest in the Princess Carriage Pan, you could always adapt it to become the 'tea for two' pan as I have below!

Ab Fab Jubilee Cake Tops

Transform a simple cake, cupcakes or even a platter of food into a royal extravaganza! These are fantastic for the upcoming Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Simply push the Jubilee Pop Top Cake Decorations directly into your cake. The 12 images include Buckingham Palace, The Queen, Prince Philip, corgis & carriage, amongst other things. Look how happy the Queen looks in this one!  These cupcakes are displayed on the Victoria Sponge Cake Platter.

Fairy Bread

My daughter doesn't really like bread so we have created 'Fairy Bread' which is bread spread with butter and sprinkled generously with nonpareils.  Finally cut out your favourite shapes, we have used our Crown Cookie Cutter and Metal Teapot Cutter for this Fairy Bread.

Jubilee Cake

Unless you have been asleep for the last couple of months you will be aware that we are celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June!  Here is a  patriotic cake for you to present at your party and it really is quite simple to make.  You can either roll out long sausages of Regal Ice or use the Sugarcraft Gun to create perfectly formed rope.  Then cut our Small Icing Union Jack Sugarettes into triangles to make bunting and glue along the rope with Edible Glue.  At the top of each rope join, make pretty flower rosettes using the Extra Large Plastic Flower Blossom Plunger Cutter in Atlantic Blue Regal Ice, the Medium Plastic Flower Blossom Plunger Cutter in White Regal Ice and finish the centres with Red Sugar Pearls.  I have edged this cake with our lovely Patriotic Stripe Ribbon (9mm depth) and topped it with a handmade flower which I will explain in more detail below.

Cake Craft World's Jubilee Tudor Rose

I have designed this Tudor Rose to celebrate the Queen's 60 years on the throne.  It is made using different sizes of the FMM 5 Petal Rose Cutter.  The sizes used here are 35mm, 50mm and 75mm.  For a superfine and delicate look, use Florist Paste for your Tudor Rose.  I used Bluebell, White and Poinsettia.  To achieve the beautiful little flower centres I used the amazing Daisy Centre Stamps.

If you invest in these cutters, your imagination can start creating some beautiful colour combinations.  I have kept it simple and stylish below by spraying my Pale Blue Florist Paste made roses with Pearl Edible Lustre Spray.

Princess Cake

In keeping with the Royal theme, here I have created a princess cake using our Classic Wonder Mould. This stunning skirt was created using the Broderie Anglaise Straight Frill Cutter. I mixed Florist Paste and Sugarpaste together to create a softer paste but one that would still keep it's frill when drying. I used a frilling tool from the Set of Frilling Tools but you could use a cocktail stick. You could model your own body and head but the Classic Wonder Mould comes with a doll pick and we also sell them separately. We dressed her in a White Regal Ice top and studded it with Silver Dragees. Again, she was placed on a glittered board for extra wow and finished off with a spectacular Crown Ring in her hair.
