Christmas Cake Decorating Ideas – 4 Very Different Designs

When it comes to decorating your home at Christmas or choosing cards and wrapping paper, everyone has a different style and taste – designing your Christmas cake is no different so we have come up with a range of ideas for you! Whether you are creating a cake the whole family will love or you prefer a more traditional or rustic style, take a look at these 4 very different Christmas cake ideas to give you inspiration for your own centrepiece!
Christmas Wishes & Mistletoe Kisses
This cake design was taken from a Christmas card, we loved the wording and its fun simplicity! To create the brown Christmas pudding effect, we rolled out Sattina Chestnut Brown Sugarpaste then sprinkled liberally two Rainbow Dust Edible Glitters – Frosty Green and Frosty Pink, over the top. Roll over the icing one more time before covering the cake for a fabulous effect! The iced top is White Sattina Sugarpaste rolled out and sprinkled with Rainbow Dust White Edible Glitter. Roll over one more time to incorporate the glitter into the icing, then cut a deep wavy line before placing onto the cake. Add two large holly leaves and a few berries using the Holly Cookie Cutter. The wording was cut out using the PME Metal Alphabet & Number Cutters. To add extra texture and colour to the leaves and wording, roll edible glitter into the sugarpaste as before.
We absolutely loved this Season’s Greetings stag Christmas card and so have recreated the look with these two ‘very Scottish’ themed cakes. We used the PME Bark Design Impression Mat on Sattina White Sugarpaste on the boards, then dusted over them very lightly with Sugarflair Chocolate Blossom Tint. Both cakes are covered in Sattina Dove Grey Sugarpaste, but to get the speckled effect, roll out the paste, brushing over with Rainbow Dust Starlight Comet White Dust and then sprinkle over Rainbow Dust Edible White Glitter. Roll the glitter into the paste before covering the cakes.
Both stags are made out of Sattina 3-in-1 paste in white then dusted and painted afterwards. The large one is moulded freehand and the small stag is cut out of the Jem Set Of Two Reindeer Cutters. Wrap the cakes in wired tartan ribbons and decorate with foliage and berries.
Gold Rose & Holly Cake
For a more sophisticated look we have created a wreath of gold holly using the Large Set Of 3 Holly Plungers and a centrepiece of roses which was made using the ‘Smaller Easiest Rose Ever’ Cutters, Set of 2. Add three Gold Pearl Candles, a beautiful Gold Crinkle Ribbon and dust the leaves and roses in Rainbow Dust Starlight Comet White, enhancing the edges with Rainbow Dust Metallic Golden Sands Dust.
Santa Train Cake
This funky cake has been covered in Sattina Mediterranean Blue Sugarpaste with Rainbow Dust Frosty Blue Glitter rolled into it. It has a train full of parcels circling around the side made using Fmm’s Train Cutter Set and the steam was cut out using PME’s Blossom Plunger Cutters. The Christmas tree was made using the Snowflake Plunger Cutters and the wording on top is cut using Fmm’s Chunky Funky Alphabet Cutters. To finish, add a Santa topper, a North Pole sign and a sprinkling of edible snowflakes.
