This Week – Embossed Hearts for Cookies, Decorations & Plaques

« Back to news categories

These Pavoni Plunger cutters make creating patterned cookies, decorations and plaques quick and simple. The small one at 4.5cm across is perfect for bite size cookies, and together, between the two sizes you can create cupcake decorations, side plaques and cake toppers. Just remember, if you want the decoration to stand up use a modelling paste, otherwise keep it edible and use sugarpaste or marzipan.

We Used:
Pavoni Heart Plunger Cutters, Set of 2
Rainbow Dust Metallic Golden Sands Dust
Sattina Cerise Pink, True Red & Regal Purple Sugarpaste
Cornflour Pouch
Paint Palette
Nylon Brush No 3

To create icing plaques and decorations from sugarpaste, firstly dab your work surface with a cornflour pouch. Knead the icing until smooth and pliable then roll out to about 2mm in thickness. Position the plunger on top of the icing, press the cutter down to cut out the heart then push the plunger down to emboss it. Remove the cutter then carefully lift up your heart decoration, move to one side and leave to dry.

Painting the heart decorations gold gives them a really luxurious finish. Mix a little gold edible lustre dust with rejuvenator spirit then paint over the raised embossed patterns. We used the Metallic Golden Sands dust because it gives a vibrant, bright gold effect.

We used:
Sattina Pitch Black Sugarpaste
Cornflour Pouch
Sugarflair White Blossom Tint Dust
Sugarflair Rejuvenator Spirit
Nylon Brush No 3

You can also create the ‘chalkboard’ effect, a fashionable trend at the moment on cakes! Cut out the heart decorations in black sugarpaste or for a slightly mottled effect, knead a tiny bit of white sugarpaste into the black, then roll out. Mix a little White Blossom Tint dust with rejuvenator spirit then simply paint over the pattern.
